What is the process for creating a custom saddle?

Creating a custom saddle at Greg Allan Saddlery is a meticulous and personalized journey, ensuring that both you and your horse receive a product that meets your specific needs and preferences. Here’s an overview of our custom saddle creation process:

  1. Initial Consultation:

    • We start with a detailed conversation to understand your requirements, riding style, and any specific preferences or concerns you may have. This can be done in person, over the phone, or via video call.

  2. Horse Measurement and Evaluation:

    • Accurate measurements of your horse are essential for a perfect fit. Our expert saddle fitter will visit your location to take precise measurements of your horse’s back, considering its unique shape and conformation.

  3. Rider Assessment:

    • We also assess your riding posture and style. This helps us determine the best seat size, flap length, and other features tailored to your comfort and riding efficiency.

  4. Design and Material Selection:

    • Based on the assessments, we collaborate with you to choose the design, leather type, color, and any additional custom features such as tooling, stitching patterns, and hardware. Every detail is selected to reflect your personal style and functional needs.

  5. Saddle Crafting:

    • Our skilled artisans begin the crafting process, meticulously hand-cutting, shaping, and assembling each piece of the saddle. Using traditional techniques combined with modern innovations, we ensure exceptional quality and durability.

  6. Fitting Session:

    • Once the saddle is assembled, we conduct a fitting session to test it on your horse. This allows us to make any necessary adjustments to ensure an optimal fit and maximum comfort for both you and your horse.

  7. Final Adjustments and Finishing:

    • After the fitting session, we make any final adjustments needed and add the finishing touches. This step ensures that the saddle not only fits perfectly but also meets our high standards of craftsmanship.
